Ponce Inlet Offshore Fishing Report

Just because red snapper is out of harvest season doesn’t mean you can’t catch them. They are great fighters, great for pictures and when vented correctly they have a high percent  recovery rate. We have caught these guys anywhere from 3 miles from shore all the way to over 200′ of water. We’ve caught them on just about any lure or bait. We’ve even caught them on a fly rod. Now if we would just have a longer season than 5 days would be even better.

New Smyrna and Daytona Beach Offshore Fishing Report

With the water temperature still in the mod 60’s fishing inside 20 mile is tough. Not much action on the troll. Only bite we were able to get was a couple kingfish. Bottom fishing however is still consistent. Due to the water still being cold the fish are lazy, you have to drop the bait right in from for them to get bit. Bluefish are everywhere however. Lots of fun catching them on a fly rod. Capt. Nick

New Smyrna Beach, Ponce Inlet & Daytona Beach Offshore Fishing Report by Capt. Nick

The weather gave us a chance to head offshore Saturday for some trolling action. It did not disappoint. The PG’s are holding a decent amount of King Mackeral on the north side. Spoon of choice was black with purple flash and pink. Also pulled some ballyhoo rigged with green sea witch and got us a decent Mahi. Our winter days being able to head offshore in the Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach area is minimal due to high seas, but if we pick a day where we can go it’s worth it. Capt. Ponce Inlet Fishing Report: May 5th-13th

The offshore bite has officially begun. Mahi are showing up in the 150 to 300 foot range. Look for color change and troll the temperature break at the edge. You will also find black fin tuna and sailfish mixed in. Sea witch rigged ballyhoo and green spoons seem to get the most bites. Amber jacks are starting to migrate over structure. Speed jigs and live pin fish work best. Also, Grouper season opened up May 1st.   Capt. Nick www.searokcharters.com

Offshore bottom fishing is picking up closer to shore. Site 10 has been productive for red eyes and lane snapper. Water is still a little cold and dirty but with the right drop and fresh bait you’re more likely to get bit. Using a chicken rig with cut ballyhoo, mullet or squid will give you a nice variety of dinner plates. Book your offshore or deep sea fishing trip with Searok Charters!
