It’s always shark week out of ponce, especially this season. They can be found just about in any depth of water. Anywhere from the beach all the way to 300′. Although all sharks on our charters are catch and release only, they are great fighters. They will pull and fight all the way to the boat. Great for pictures and fish stories.

Offshore fishing out of Ponce Inlet has been a bit challenging to say the least. Trolling has been slow so we are mostly bottom fishing. That never seems to disappoint. The Tomoka Basin fishing has been incredible for the last few weeks and this week didn’t disappoint. Took a young man and his dad out for some action and it was non stop all day. His dad told me he has never caught a snook and wanting one real bad. 8 snook later he was tired. Also landed some jacks and redfish. The Tomoka river basin fishing continues to be excellent. We had plenty of snook action, some smaller redfish and tons of jacks. Live shrimp on a jig head dragged across the bottom seems to be the ticket for the best bites. However Gulp Live shrimp also landed some snook. I would fish the outgoing tide. Capt. Tomoka river Basin is providing some exceptional flats fishing. With the clear water moving in and water temps consistent its holding all kinds of inshore species. Red fish are plenty, snook are hot and plenty of jacks around to bend some rods. If you’re not getting bites try dropping leader size down. With the clearer water they tend to be more leader shy. With the water temperature still in the mod 60’s fishing inside 20 mile is tough. Not much action on the troll. Only bite we were able to get was a couple kingfish. Bottom fishing however is still consistent. Due to the water still being cold the fish are lazy, you have to drop the bait right in from for them to get bit. Bluefish are everywhere however. The wahoo bite is running long this season. They are not as thick as they were in February but given the right conditions you can still come home with dinner. The further you venture north into St. Augustine territory the better chance you have. We’ve had the best hook up with black and orange high speed lures. The clarity in the Tomoka river is finally clearing up to where the fish can see the bait. Working the outgoing tide fish the drop offs with live shrimp or gold spoons for the reaction bite. Redfish and trout are moving in. Have not had much luck in the flats, I would concentrate on the basin area north of the park. Popping corks and loud shiny spin baits seem to get the most bites.
